Odyssey Volleyball Club News and Information...

Posted Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 11:50 PM

We are back from the 2010 AAU National Tournament!

The tournament is over, some players are home, other are enjoying vacation time, and others are getting much needed rest. It was a good tournament. Although we didn't win a pools on the the third day, we played 3 really good teams, with one of the teams finishing 5th overall in the tournament.

On Wednesday, the Championship Day, we were made it to the semi-finals in the Red Division and ended up 42 overall in the team rankings. We played very competitive with the better teams. Most teams are club teams that have been playing together since last November.

As a team, all players worked hard, had lots of fun, and enjoyed the trip.

Remember, your tryout age is how old you are on September 1, 2010.

Our Mission:
The mission of the Odyssey Volleyball Club is to provide intense volleyball training for various age groups of both females and males. This training is intended to prepare the players for high school, tournament, and possible post high school and college competition.

What are the formats for teams in the Odyssey VBC?
The Odyssey VBC will focus on Club and possible Super Club teams for the 2006 season. We will have 4 different groups of teams.

First, Club Teams (ages 10 to 13)  These teams will play 5 or 6 tournaments and will focus on fundamentals with tournament travel being in the Columbus area.

Second, Club Teams (ages 14 to 15) playing 7 tournaments (on Saturdays or Sundays), focusing on fundamentals and some advanced skills. Travel will be within a 60 mile radius of Columbus with one tournament being an overnight.

Third, Club Teams (ages 16 to 18) playing 7 tournaments (mostly Sundays) with 1 tournament being an overnight. These teams will focus on advanced skills.

Fourth, Super Club Teams (ages 16 to 18) playing 8 tournaments (mostly Sundays) with 1 tournament being an overnight and 1 being a 2 day. These teams will focus on advanced skill and very competitive play.

Club season team fees start at $399.00 and increase based on the level of play and type of team.

How do you tryout for Odyssey VBC?

Second - A player will then attend one of the mandatory “Try Outs” for the age group they are planning on participating in during the club season.

See the Home page for the latest information.

Remember, your tryout age is how old you are on September 1, 2006.
Third - Upon completion of tryouts, the players will be informed by the Odyssey Staff as to their status with the club.
Fourth - There is the ten (10) day waiting period, after which the player can sign-up with Odyssey Volleyball Club.

How does Odyssey VBC communicate with club members?
The Odyssey VBC, much like the OVR of USA Volleyball uses the Internet to share information with club members. Therefore, having access to the Internet is very helpful, but not required.

We rely on email to contact players. On our web site we post practice schedules, tournament information, results, pictures of club activities, maps, etc.

We will also post team and individual pictures of the 17 and 18 team members. We will post basic information about individual players that might be of interest to college coaches. Our goal is to give those players planning on attending college as much exposure as possible to promote their volleyball skills to help them obtain college scholarships.

As a club, we will make every effort to help promote members of our club with college coaches. Coaches will be sent information and playing schedules so our players can be visited by the college coaches at the various tournaments in which we participate.

What is included in the Odyssey VBC team fees?
Team fees include the following:
• OVR/USA Membership fees
• Tournament entry fees
• Uniforms (2 Jerseys, 1 Shorts)
• Odyssey hooded sweat shirt
• Odyssey back pack
